Acai Berry Scammers Beware, Oprah And Dr Oz Are After You

We may finally be seeing the end of the acai berry scam. After Oprah Winfrey and Dr Oz end up suing the pants off of some 50 manufacturers and promoters of this diet rebill garbage that have used their names and images in promotions, there may not be anyone left to make this stuff for those that promote it in other ways.

Oprah, Dr. Oz and the companies that represent them are suing these entities for misrepresenting their images, voices, business, likenesses and basically anything else to do with who they are. And it’s not only acai berry products that have used images and indentities of the two tv personalities, the suit is also targeting other products such as teeth whiteners, colon cleansers, resveratrol supplements as well as other diet pills, anti-wrinkle creams and other products where their supposed endorsements have been used.

Out of those some 50 entities being sued, Oprah’s and Dr Oz’s lawyers may find out many of them are the same people running the same companies that have changed their business names over and over to avoid this very kind of action. If you belong to any of the multitude of CPA companies around today, you may have noticed that a new acai berry or resveratrol product shows up in your offers seemingly on a weekly basis and that current ones disappear at the same rate. Gee, I wonder why that happens?

You also have to wonder if there are any affiliate marketers promoting acai berry or other diet stuff and using Oprah’s images that happened to get caught up in this lawsuit. There are affiliates that have made millions promoting this stuff as is evident with the multitude of splogs, fake news sites, pay per click campaigns on every acai berry keyword imaginable and other sites that supposedly review this stuff. You also can’t help seeing the advertisements all over sites like Drudge Report and other news sites that eventually lead to these splogs and fake news sites. This is big business for some affiliates and many CPA companies and it could mean that many of them will have to change the way they do business.

The news of this legal action has already been on Good Morning America and I thought I saw something this weekend about it being on ABC News with Charles Gibson tonight August 24th. Hopefully if you are an affiliate or CPA company selling this stuff you won’t see your name on the news tonight.

It’s probably a good thing to just get away from promoting these kind of products if you want to have a long term affiliate business.

Working Towards Unemployment – It’s A Beautiful Thing

Your goal as an affiliate marketer, should you choose to accept it, is to ultimately become unemployed. With that said, if Al Gore decided to flip the switch and turn the internet off, I’d be in trouble because I don’t know if I could ever go back to working in a cubicle again.

When you come home from working for someone else it will probably take some time to get used to all the things you have to do working for yourself. You have to do everything from taking out the trash, to figuring how much money to spend on advertising to making management decisions to being the one and only IT person to cleaning up after the cat. The multitude of things that need to be done every day can be a bit overwhelming until you get into the stride of your new gig. Once you get into that stride though, you then begin to realize how fortunate you are to be able to earn a living from the comfort of your home (or drinking coffee at B&N where I am now).

It also takes some time after you start working at home before you get to the the point where you realize how restrictive the job environment really was. However, at the same time you realize that, you kind of get a shock to your system when it dawns on you that you may not be able to ever return to that previous lifestyle. Congratulations, you are now totally unemployable!

While growing into your work at home affiliate business you will experience many a roller coaster ride when one month you are doing great and the next month you’re trying to figure out how you can afford to start your next ppc campaign or even buy a cup of coffee at the local Starbucks or Barnes & Noble. Over the more than 4 years I’ve been working at home I’ve made from $600 per month to $10,000 per month and literally everything in between. I’ve had so may sources of income dry up and so many others come from out of nowhere, it’s completely unbelievable sometimes to even contemplate how that has actually happened.

But that’s the way most affiliate marketers experience their business and watching things happen like this makes you much more able to see opportunity and capitalize on those opps that can make a difference in your business. All the while this is happening though you always want to be working towards those things that will provide you much more stability than some flash in the pan trick that you learned in the latest ebook you paid way too much for.

The shock to your system when you realize you are no longer job material I mentioned earlier makes you all the more an entreprenuer. Eventually, what was once a challenge to figure out where your next source of income will come from becomes a mode of everyday thinking. Seeing a ppc campaign dry up or not earning as much from your latest BANS site as you thought you would is no longer a big deal because you’ve already figured out how to do the things that can earn you a nice income. It isn’t like starting over, it’s just continuing down the path of being an entreprenuer. No worries, you’ll figure something out.

Having the determination to work through those days and extended periods in your affiliate business when things aren’t going that well will develop your attitude from an, “OMG what am I going to do?” minset to a, “No biggie, I’ll figure somthin’ out” attitude.

Set your mind on working towards unemployment, because it really is a beautiful thing.

Central Florida Dot Com Steak Out – Virgin Edition

Dot Com Steak Out

Without the aid of a government check or government workers, bloggers, business owners and affiliate marketers stimulated the economy in Central Florida this weekend. The virgin edition of the Dot Com Steak Out (Facebook Group) took place at Logan’s Roadhouse in Kissimmee this past Saturday Feb 21st and had a pretty good turn out for a first time meeting of affiliate marketers, newbies wanting to get in on the game and CPA networks from around the central Florida area.

We didn’t talk a whole lot of business, but it was great to meet some of the peeps you correspond with online and over the phone, and read their blogs and tweets, but rarely get to see in person. Plus, we got some cool schwag from Convert2Media and Amped Media. C2M has a nice bling T-shirt you should get, but hey, don’t expect freebies every time we get together now.

Dot Com Steak Out Schwag

Every third Saturday of the month we meet at a steak house somewhere in Central Florida and the group is open to anyone associated with affiliate marketing, blogging and making money online. All you have to do is sign up for the Facebook group so you get the updates and attend the meet-up whenever you can. You don’t even have to live in Florida. If you’re going to be down here on vacation or whatever and it’s convenient, join us for lunch, ideas, entrepreneur talk and general discussions on how to make a living in a different way than most of the world does.

Meet-ups like this are incredibly motivating, at least for me, because it continues to remind me how much money can be made in the affiliate marketing space and how much opportunity there is.

Those that attended are below:

Kiley Lenstrom – Thanks to Kiley for getting this gig up and running.
Gary
Billy
Alan LeStourgeon (me)
Ken Jenkins – Newbie and willing to learn

Johnathan Gies (Amped Media)
Nicole Gies (Amped Media)
Edward Murray (Amped Media)
Janell Kowalski (Amped Media) + guest
