Want to get some free traffic to your blog or web site and actually have people take a good look at it? I know you’ve seen the cheesy, get 25,000 visitors to your site for $29.95 scam deals, but this is a way to get real visitors to review your site and give you pointers on what you can do to improve it and make it better. No, you won’t get tens of thousands of visitors with these reviews, but you will get real opinions from real people.

If you head over to Webmaster Talk forums you can get your blog and or web site reviewed for free, but there are some rules. You can’t just hop over there, sign up and start spamming the forums with your blog or site urls, you have to participate and add value to the forums first by reviewing 3 blogs before you can submit your own.

You can also get your web site reviewed for free as well, and you also have to review 3 web sites  before asking for your own web site to be reviewed. You can’t do 1 blog review and 2 website reviews and then submit your own blog and web site. You must review 3 of each before submitting your own. Preferably you should look for threads and review those sites or blogs that haven’t been looked at yet or had a response to. That’s not always possible, but be on the look out for empty, non-responded threads.

Oh, and no lame, “Cool site” or “Like the colors” type responses. Please add value to the forum and review a site as you would expect to get yours reviewed.

Probably one of the better places to learn about how to operate a business online is by getting involved in the major forums. It’s a great way to meet people involved in like minded niches and interests that you may have and to pick their brains on a vast array of subjects ranging from how to make money online, to how to design and code your website, to SEO, to web hosting and the list of subjects goes on.

There are plenty of forums around and you can get overwhelmed with being too involved in them instead of working on your sites. However, I’ve discovered one lately that I really like and will be using on a regular basis. Webmaster-Talk.com is another forum that I didn’t even know about until just a week ago or so. Somehow I keep missing sites like this with tons of active members and lots of valuable information, but you shouldn’t miss this one.

No matter what you do online, if it involves putting together web sites or making money, Webmaster Talk has a thread about it. Their main sections include:

and more.

Of course each section has multiple sub-sections and covers nearly any topic you can think of. And with more than 56,000 members and 129,000 threads, there’s a huge repository of information there. You will also want to add to the conversation to return the favor and pay it forward when you get a nice tip on something you’ve been trying to figure out.

I like to use forums to learn what other people are doing to succeed online and to carry on short conversations directly involved in the niche I’m interested in. What I don’t use forums for is just to carry on long involved conversations that don’t in the end matter to either helping someone succeed or learning something I didn’t already know. If you want to succeed online, you have to be careful that you aren’t wasting time with unproductive bantering just to be “involved.”
